Geolocate your observations:
Natalog proposes a free service
You wish to note the GPS coordonnates of your observations, but you have no GPS device, and cutting off the latitude and longitude of the link you can copy on Google website does not seem so handy to you. Natalog proposes a free online service. Enter the name of the place where you have been birdwatching and click on the button. A map is displayed with a pointer at the center. Zoom if you wish, and drag the pointer to the exact spot where you have made your observation. The GPS coordonnates are displayed under the map. You only need to copy them and paste them in a spreadsheet, for example. Or in your Natalog software.
Moreover, you can easily copy a link to paste it in a mail for your friends.They will only have to click to see your map with their browser. At any time, you can toggle between map view, satellite view, mixed view (satellite plus map), land view. You may also see the map (and the other views) full screen. Click on the button on the left of this page to try out the free service.

Natalog at the "Colloque Francophone d'Ornithologie"
Discover Natalog Transfer 2
Natalog will have a booth in the CFO (French speaking Ornithology Conference) that is to be held in the François-Mitterrand Library in Paris on december 5th and 6th. Participants will be able to attend the Natalog demo shows, ask questions and make wishes for future developments.
They will also discover Natalog Transfer 2, the free application that will be online on at the end of 2009 (that is what we hope as last tests are in progress).
Natalog Transfer 2 allow birding societies and scientific institutions to benefit from all the richness of the observations transmitted by spotters using Natalog. All informations contained by Natalog logs can be translated in a format suited to all sorts of applications (data bases, geographic information software...). Natalog Transfer 2 allows users to entirely customize the way information is presented and exported (".txt", ".csv", ".xls", ".xml"). All these settings are recorded within "codecs" and the number of codecs is not limited. Natalog Transfer 2 proposes calculation functions that allow to combine informations or apply pre-treatments to data, to make them even richer.
With Natalog Transfer 2, a free application, birding societies and scientific institutions get new opportunities to gather even more data. And even richer data.

Natalog's European birds list update
Version 2.00 of Natalog's European birds list is available for download here.
Version 2.00 presents 91 new species, numerous order modifications for orders, families and species, modifications in scientific names and adds missing translations. All these modifications are listed in the version notes.
This new version is based upon the last edition of the list established by the Commission de l'Avifaune française (CAF: french authority for birds taxonomy). The CAF follows the recommendations of the european Taxonomic Advisory Committee (TAC).

Natalog version presently available for download embeds this new version of the European birds list.
Soon, the new version of Natalog Transfer will do the same.

Natalog is on holydays. Natalog license delivery procedure is manual and takes place during french opening hours.
It will then be suspended during our vacations, from august, 6th to august, 24th (approx.).
During this period, you can download Natalog for trial.
Natalog Transfer is free and is not concerned by the suspension.

Natalog Transfer 2 coming soon !
Natalog Transfer version that is presently distributed is a "pre-version", intended to help to understand the general functionning of Natalog System.
Natalog Transfer version 2 development is in its final phase : last checks, last tests, help writing.
With Natalog Transfer 2, birding societies, scientific institutions and all those who treat birding data through big data bases, statistics software, GIS (Geographical Information System), will be able to easily and richly adapt to their needs the data entered through Natalog by terrain spotters.

Natalog at the "Colloque Francophone d'Ornithologie"
Natalog had a booth in the CFO (French speaking Ornithology Conference) that was held in the François-Mitterrand Library in Paris. Many participants attended the Natalog and Natalog Transfer demo shows, asked questions, and discovered how the software suite will help them.
Comments were very positive and encouraging for us. Everyone could realise how easy it becomes to manage and transmit personal birding data.
Several visitors indicated they feel it comfortable to know that their data will be treated automatically, which in fact means that "like this, they will be treated". Many birdwatchers feel it "useless" to send paper logs or spreadsheet files, as they are not treated when it has to be manual.
Thanks to all visitors for their warm welcome.

Natalog's web site is now fully functionnal. It is possible to purchase Natalog's licence right from the application.

Natalog has been updated to optimise its compatibility with Paybox securised payment site and to make a few small operational improvements.

Natalog Transfer in on line too and an "experimental" version can downloaded. Its licence is free.

We are know expecting users feedback, to still improve Natalog system, while keeping its simplicity.

By making itself known, Natalog facilitates data collection by birding societies, and encourages them to use Natalog Transfer to automatically treat the observations transmitted to them, and thus to make the best use of it.
