Missing species?
You want to note an observation for a species that does not appear in the list of Western Palearctic birds. This may be a casual bird or a newly defined non-listed species, for example.
We follow the evolution of the observations and definitions of species to keep our lists updated. By reporting a missing species at taxo@natalog.com, you help us with this updating. To be kept informed of new releases and other news, subscribe to the Natalog newsletter on the homepage.

Frequently asked quetions

Natalog

Softwares like Natalog already exist, why create another one?

Software (and websites) to note observations already exist, this is true. But Natalog wants to be much faster, more friendly, and richer, to encourage watchers to create rich data.
Natalog is an automated standardised data transmitting system that will make it possible to enter more information in the databases operated by naturalist societies, scientific laboratories or institutions, museums, environmental agencies...

What's the use of contesting the databases that are already at work?

On the contrary, Natalog wants to "feed" these databases that, very often are not fully used, because, most of the time, of the delay accumulated by manually entering data.
By automatising data integration into these databases, Natalog leaves the nature volunteer watchers free to be on the spots they observe, instead of spending time entering amounts of other watchers data. Natalog also avoid to societies and institutions to spend money in wages for this unpleasant job.

One can now enter observations on websites, isn't it better?

It is true that, now, some societies or institutions have websites where watchers can enter observations "online". But not all of them, as it is very costly to create such a website. When a watcher enters is data on a website, the data is on the website, not on his computer. Or, he has to enter them both on his computer and on the website he wants. And if he wants to communicate them to another society, he will have to enter them a third time. And the way of entering data may be different on each website, so he will have to learn the way of each of them.
Some of the sites allow to retrieve your sightings, sometimes mixed with others. But only the sightings that have been transmitted to this site.
With Natalog, you enter your sightings once and you can send them as many times as you want. All the sightings are saved by Natalog and can be retrieved easily.
